Fitness has been appealing to me for the better part of fifteen years because its challenges force you to look inward…
- Why am I doing this?
- Am I doing this for me, or for someone else?
- Do I have what it takes?
- What are my biggest limiting factors?
Inward reflection is a necessity with fitness; and the further you go, the greater the challenges can become.
Sometimes taking a hard look in the mirror is the best way at realigning yourself when you become disenchanted with your fitness. Let’s use the questions provided earlier to illustrate.
- Why am I doing this? Why ARE you doing this? If you cannot answer this question, then it may be high-time to reevaluate your goal(s). Maybe you already achieved your previous ‘why’ and it is time to define something new.
- Am I doing this for me, or for someone else? If you are not setting goal(s) for YOU, then no other question matters. This needs correction first. What’s deceiving is that although your goal(s) might be clear and in place, they are for external purposes only.
- Do I have what it takes? The hardest one to swallow, because the answer is always YES; you just need to be certain that you are committed to do what it takes. Hint – it involves some level of discipline.
- What are my biggest limiting factors? This one is the most difficult to discover on your own, which is why hiring a coach can prove valuable. Part of a coach’s role is helping to identity what these limiting factors are, and then provide recommendations on how to rise above.
Fitness has a way of forcing you to look inward at times; through good and through bad. This is one of the reasons it became my calling, and why I’ve come to rely on it during times when I feel off- kilter – psychologically and physically. Not sure where you stand currently? Take some time to reflect on these questions and you may have your answer.
